An introduction to Swami Debananda Ashram and Mission, life at the Ashram, and its four core values.

Swami Debananda Ashram and Mission are non‑political, non‑sectarian spiritual institutions that have long been engaged in diverse humanitarian and social service activities. Inspired by the ideals of renunciation and service, the monks and lay devotees of the Ashram and Mission dedicate themselves to serving countless men, women, and children irrespective of their caste, creed and community, seeing in every creature the presence of God. The organizations quietly work to foster the spiritual evolvement of humanity, guided by the philosophy of Sadguru Swami Debananda Maharaj and the path shown by Him.

About the Ashram

Sadguru Swami Debananda Maharaj envisioned the Ashram as a sacred family, united not by blood but by the kinship of the soul, where every action is regarded as worship and every responsibility as service.

Whenever we think of an ashram, we are reminded of ideals. An ashram is filled with ideals, discipline, and orderliness. Our most revered Gurudev, Swami Debananda Maharaj has established ashrams at different places across the country, and has initiated various activities that help people move ahead on the path spiritual evolvement.

Swami Debananda Ashram conducts regular spiritual activities such as worship, devotional singing (Naamgaan), meditation, atmacharcha or discussions on spiritual self-evolvement, japa yajna, brata palan and dibya sanga. By participating in these programs, people can let their lives be guided by ideals and experience inner joy.

Japa yajna is held at the ashrams from time to time to help devotees withdraw their minds from the material world and rise above self-centredness.

Naamgaan or devotional singing is conducted three times daily in every ashram, and occasionally in devotees' homes so that everyone can partake of the divine joy.

Atmacharcha or discussion sessions on spiritual self-evolvement are held daily at fixed times in every ashram and are also conducted in the online mode. Through these sessions, people can overcome misconceptions and attain a clearer understanding of life.

Brata palan is another spiritual programme organized by the ashram, by participating in which devotees can relieve themselves of stress and experience the joy of spiritual retreat.

Apart from the annual festivals of the branch ashrams, different auspicious occasions like Bengali New Year (1st day of Baishakh), Akshaya Tritiya, regarded as the auspicious beginning of Satya Yuga, 25th of Baishakh, the advent day of Gurudev, Rakhi Purnima, Rath Yatra, Janmastami, and Mahalaya are celebrated in all the branches of Swami Debananda Ashram. Durga Puja is held at all the ten branches of the ashram present in West Bengal, while Jagaddhatri Puja is celebrated at Nibeditapally ashram, Burdwan and Bagapani ashram in Assam.
